Planning for Succession?

Planning for the future of your farm can feel complex, but getting started doesn’t have to be. Our Planning for Succession Workshops build your confidence to start and navigate the process, helping you understand key differences between asset transfer, business continuity, and intergenerational ownership.

You’ll gain clarity on what’s needed for a strong plan, define roles across generations, and map a clear path forward so you can take the next steps with confidence.

Meet the facilitator

Our Rabo Workshops are led by Lawrence Field of Rural Field Consultants Ltd. Originally from a sharemilking background, Lawrence went on to run a specialist farm accountancy practice in Masterton before focusing on facilitation and training across the country.

He remains actively involved in farming, currently finishing around 150 head of cattle just outside Masterton.

With a natural ability to speak “farmer language,” Lawrence makes the numbers side of farming clear, relevant, and engaging. He combines real-world insight with a genuine enthusiasm for helping farmers build confidence and capability through better understanding their business.

Have questions?

Our workshops are typically a full day programme, finishing around 3pm. All workshop course material and catering is provided.

All our upcoming workshops are available here. You can also visit our Facebook page for our latest workshops.

Our Succession Planning Workshops will provide you the steps and tools to take that next step on your succession journey. Our workshops offer:

  • Structured, guided conversations (not just day-to-day chats)
  • Expert insights you may not have considered
  • A neutral environment that makes tough topics easier to explore

You may have a clear vision, but succession only works when the next generation understands and supports it. Having your children there or bringing your parents along ensures your plans are realistic, shared, and something they’re actually prepared to step into.

Succession planning is a journey, not a one-time event. Starting early gives your family more options, more flexibility, and less pressure. Our Succession Planning Workshop will provide you with the tools to start the conversation.
