During the National Fieldays event in Mystery Creek in June, we asked visitors at the Rabobank marquee to post their top tips on ways to reduce food waste to our Tip Tree. Needless to say, the tree was soon in full bloom.

Rabobank Tips Tree

Here are our Top Ten tips from the tree to help reduce food waste:

  • Make bread into breadcrumbs
  • Freeze your leftovers
  • Rotten bananas make the best banana cake
  • Shop your pantry/fridge before going food shopping
  • Make chicken bones into stock
  • Make vegetable stock from peelings
  • Don’t buy what you won’t eat
  • Use coriander stalks in stir frys. They’re yum
  • Freeze your bread and only take out what you need
  • Freeze extra chopped veges for stock & soup etc

During National Fieldays we also delivered the findings of our Rabobank-KiwiHarvest Food Waste Research. To read more about the report, click here.
